ASSISTANT PROFESSOR JOBS
MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY
The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences invites applications for three tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant
Professor, beginning August 2007. Applicants should be prepared to teach primarily in the Sociology or Criminology and
Law Studies majors. Research specializations are open.
SOCIOLOGY POSITIONS:
The first position requires a candidate willing and able to teach principles of sociology and/or sociological theory, plus
courses in heath, illness, and/or aging. Contributions in any of the following areas a plus: race & ethnic relations, social
inequality, family, gender, life course, social institutions (e.g. religion, education, politics, etc.), and urban issues.
The second position requires a candidate willing and able to teach principles of sociology and/or sociological theory, plus
courses in one or more of the following areas: family, gender, race & ethnic relations, life course, social institutions (e.g.
religion, education, politics, etc.), social inequality, race & ethnic relations, and urban issues.
CRIMINOLOGY POSITION:
The successful candidate will teach courses in at least one of the following areas: introduction to criminology; race, crime,
and justice; organized crime; criminal violence; causes and correlates of crime; crime and victimization; legal studies;
comparative legal systems; international law; restorative justice; critical criminology; and urban crime and control.
Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching, evidence of scholarly productivity, and a coherent research agenda.
Special consideration will be given to applicants with academic experiences and interests in culturally diverse groups. Ph.D.
strongly preferred, but ABDs will be considered.
The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences offers undergraduate majors in Anthropology, Criminology and Law
Studies, Social Welfare and Justice, and Sociology. Faculty members hold degrees in anthropology, criminal justice,
criminology, law, sociology, social work, and urban studies. The department has been home to a major interdisciplinary
journal-Social Problems-and faculty members are nationally prominent in each of the disciplines. The department is
