The Center for Women's Studies at the University of Cincinnati (USA) invites applications for serving as the Mary Ellen
Heintz Distinguished Professor of Women's Studies on the basis of a one-year contract, renewable for a second year, starting
in Fall 2004.
We seek a mid-career (associate or advanced assistant professor level) scholar to contribute to the research, teaching, and
outreach mission of the Center for Women's Studies through this endowed position made possible by the Center's
community support organization, the Friends of Women's Studies, and named for one of its past presidents and most
generous contributors. The position provides a special opportunity for a mid-career scholar on leave or independent scholar
to have this prestigious title and to work in one of the oldest Women's Studies programs in the country that has a long
history of graduate education, research and grant initiatives, and hosting renowned scholars and is soon to gain department
status. Interested senior scholars are also welcome to apply on the understanding that the endowed salary is a maximum
of US$50,000 plus benefits.
A Ph.D. in Women's Studies or a related field, preferably with a background in social science, legal, public policy,
area/comparative studies, race and ethnicity, and/or historical research, substantial teaching experience, and a
well-developed research program and publication record are required. Field of specialization is open, but candidates must
be able to teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in feminist theory and methodologies from interdisciplinary
critical race and/or transnational perspectives and to offer new courses in their field of specialty. Candidates must also be
willing to provide at least one presentation for Friends of Women's Studies and at least one research colloquium for graduate
students and faculty per year. Teaching load on a quarter system is dependent on the research program the candidate brings
to or creates within the position, and the Center will provide a small research fund.
