POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Associate or Full Professor of Sociology: The person hired into this position will implement the newly-created Bachelor
of Arts program in Sociology. This is a startup program with a generalist core including traditional and innovative courses.
Responsibilities within the discipline will include teaching lower- and upper- division courses in Sociology. Responsibilities
beyond the discipline include teaching interdisciplinary and general education-breadth courses at both introductory and
advanced levels. Additionally, all members of the faculty are expected to assume an active collegial role in the planning
and governance of the institution through service on campus-wide, divisional, and Academic Senate committees. Faculty
members are expected to promote cross-cultural awareness and service to the community.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Sociology (or equivalent)
- A record of effective teaching with a variety of methodologies
- A record of scholarly achievement
- Evidence of commitment and ability to work in teams
- Experience with and commitment to working in a multiethnic, multilingual, and multicultural
environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in curriculum and program development
- Experience in and commitment to on-going, outcomes-based program assessment of teaching and learning
- Commitment to mentoring colleagues
- Involvement in lifelong learning and extended education programs
- Experience with international education
- Experience in teaching service learning/civic engagement courses
