POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Women's Studies Program and the Sociology/Anthropology Department at the University of Illinois at Springfield seek
an interdisciplinary teacher-scholar in gender and globalization whose teaching and scholarship is firmly grounded in
feminist
scholarship that focuses on the intersections of gender, race/ethnicity, nationality, class and sexuality.
Possible teaching and scholarship areas include global transformations in labor and work, including migration and migrant
labor;
changing family roles and structures; distribution of wealth and resources among and within the global south and north; and
transnational economic processes, organizations, and movements. We prefer candidates who take comparative approaches
to
systemic challenges posed by globalization.
The new hire will develop and teach comparative societies and global awareness courses for the new general education
curriculum, teach other new and existing undergraduate courses, participate fully in program and curriculum development,
and
advise and mentor students in both programs. We will prefer candidates who can teach the women's studies intro and
feminist
theory courses, as well as Socio-Cultural Theories, and who are able or willing to teach some courses on-line.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary undergraduate teaching, and must have a Ph.D.
(completed by time of appointment) in sociology, anthropology, women's studies, international studies, or a discipline
appropriate for appointment between the two programs.
