POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Sociology/Anthropology program at the University of Illinois at Springfield invites applications for a tenure track
position
in sociology at the assistant professor level to begin August 15, 2006. We seek a teacher-scholar with substantial theoretical
and applied expertise in class/economic inequality in U.S. communities and a commitment to engaging undergraduate
students
in research or active learning. The successful candidate will develop a new upper-level core course in Social and Economic
Inequality, teach or co-teach Social Research Methods as needed, offer a lower-division course on Social Problems and
develop
a course with a focus on class/economic equality in the U.S. as well as other electives in the candidate's area of expertise.
The
new hire will also participate fully in program and curriculum development and advise and mentor students. Contribution
to
interdisciplinary lower-division curriculum is expected. We will prefer candidates who are able to teach global
class/economic
inequality or international comparisons. Candidates interested in developing online courses are especially encouraged to
apply.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching and on-going scholarship, and must be prepared
to
teach in an interdisciplinary program offering a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and a minor in Sociology.
A Ph.D. in sociology by the date of appointment is required. Review of applications will begin on January 16,
