POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant
Professor, beginning August 2006. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach and do research in areas broadly
related to social justice. He or she will be expected to contribute to one or more of the following departmental majors:
Social Welfare and Justice, Criminology and Law Studies, and/or Sociology. The department's social justice-related needs
include, but are not limited to, the following areas: victimization and restorative justice; social policy; youth and family;
race, culture, and justice; crime and criminal justice; urban society and community; environmental justice; international
justice; globalization; drug problems, treatment, and policy. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching,
evidence of scholarly productivity, and a coherent research agenda. Special consideration will be given to applicants with
academic experiences and interests in culturally diverse groups. Ph.D. strongly preferred, but ABDs will be considered.
The Department of Social and Cultural Scienc es offers undergraduate majors in Anthropology, Criminology and Law
Studies, Social Welfare and Justice, and Sociology. Faculty members hold degrees in anthropology, criminal justice,
criminology, law, sociology, social work, and urban studies. The department has been home to a major interdisciplinary
journal-Social Problems-and faculty members are nationally prominent in each of the disciplines. The department is
